More than a century of direct glacier mass-balance observations on Claridenfirn, Switzerland

Summary: This study reanalyzed the glacier mass balance observations at Claridenfirn in Switzerland from 1914 to 2020, revealing that long-term variations in mass balance are mainly driven by melting. The findings also indicate that changes in frontal ice loss have an impact on the mass balance difference.

Measurement of rock glacier surface change over different timescales using terrestrial laser scanning point clouds

Summary: This study uses sub-monthly terrestrial lidar monitoring to analyze the deformation of an active rock glacier and separate different types of surface change that occur at different timescales. The results show that in a sample area in the lower tongue section of the glacier, the contribution of the 3-week period to the annual change is 20% perpendicular to the surface, compared to 6% in the direction of glacier flow.
