Numerical analysis on the thermal performance of microchannel heat sinks with Al2O3 nanofluid and various fins

Abdullah Masoud Ali et al.

Summary: The study investigates the hydraulic and thermal performance of microchannel heat sink configurations for high performance electronic cooling applications using numerical modelling. Results show that inserting zig-zag fins and using 3% Al2O3 nanofluid coolant in the ducts significantly improve heat transfer efficiency and reduce contact temperature.

Experimental investigation of heat transfer of Al2O3 nanofluid in a microchannel heat sink

Sung Yong Jung et al.

Summary: This study systematically analyzed the velocity and temperature fields of Al2O3 nanofluid and DI water in MCHS using PIV and LIF measurement techniques, aiming to investigate their heat transfer characteristics. The experimental results showed that the thermal entropy generation rate was 6.3% smaller when nanofluid was used as the working fluid in MCHS compared to water. This will contribute to further research on the heat transfer characteristics of Al2O3 nanofluids.

Thermohydraulic performance of a nanofluid in a microchannel heat sink: Use of different microchannels for change in process intensity

Ali Monavari et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of different particle shapes on the thermohydraulic performance of a boehmite nanofluid in a microchannel heat sink with various cross-sections. Results show that microchannels with triangular cross-sections exhibit the highest heat transfer coefficient and best temperature distribution, while nanofluids with platelet particles cause the highest pressure loss. Uniformity of temperature distribution and thermal resistance decrease with increasing Reynolds number, while heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, and pumping power increase. Additionally, nanofluids with platelet particles demonstrate the highest heat transfer coefficient among all shapes tested.

Thermal characterization and stability analysis of aqueous ZnO-based nanofluids numerically implemented in microchannel heat sinks

Victor A. Martinez et al.

Summary: Water-based nanofluids prepared with ZnO nanoparticles were characterized for their thermal conductivity, viscosity, and stability. Results showed that nanofluids with 3wt% concentration exhibited improved thermal conductivity and decreased viscosity compared to those with 1wt% concentration. The use of nanofluids in microchannels enhanced heat transfer performance, especially at low Reynolds numbers.
