Boosting Sodium Storage Performance of Hard Carbon Anodes by Pore Architecture Engineering

Mingquan Liu et al.

Summary: Porous hard carbon anodes with cross-coupled macropore architecture show enhanced Na storage performances, including increased initial Coulombic efficiency, reversible capacity, rate performance, and cycling stability compared to pristine hard carbon with negligible pores. The use of a binder can further optimize the initial Coulombic efficiency. This work provides valuable insights for optimizing the performance of hard carbon anodes through pore engineering, with potential applications in other electrode materials.

Secondary Structures of Polypeptide-Based Diblock Copolymers Influence the Microphase Separation of Templates for the Fabrication of Microporous Carbons

Ahmed F. M. EL-Mahdy et al.

Summary: The study synthesized PEO-b-PBLG rod-coil diblock copolymers with α-helical and hexagonally packed cylinder secondary structures, and the blending with resol-type phenolic resin affected the structure of the PEO segment but not the PBLG segment. Microporous carbons prepared from the blends exhibited excellent supercapacitor performance due to the influence of PBLG segment secondary structure rather than block phase separation.

Modulation of wall thickness of Al-doped ZnO nanotubes by nanolamination of atomic layer deposition for oxygen sensing

Chi-Chung Kei et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel method to prepare an Al-doped ZnO nanotube oxygen sensor with tunable wall thickness, using tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) gallium nanowire as a template. The research shows that the gas response of the nanotubes is inversely proportional to wall thickness and is influenced by the Al2O3 content.

Boost sodium-ion batteries to commercialization: Strategies to enhance initial Coulombic efficiency of hard carbon anode

Minghao Zhang et al.

Summary: Sodium-ion batteries with hard carbon electrodes have potential for large-scale energy storage due to their low cost and inexhaustible sodium reserves. However, the insufficient initial Coulombic efficiency of hard carbon hinders its practical commercialization, with strategies such as structure modification and electrolyte optimization being effective in improving it.
