This endophytic fungus produces defense metabolites against plant pathogens, with CPT gaining attention for its effective anticancer activity. Optimized factors such as medium, pH, and incubation time were found to yield the highest amount of CPT, which showed cytotoxic effects on cancer cell lines in vitro.

Summary: The main challenge in scaling up the biosynthesis of camptothecin in fungi is attenuating potency through multiple subculturing and storage. This study aimed to screen for novel fungal isolates with stable and sustainable metabolic capabilities for camptothecin production. The most potent camptothecin-producing isolates were found to be Aspergillus terreus and A. flavus endophytes of Ficus elastica, with their yield being significantly increased through optimization of their nutritional requirements and addition of surface sterilized leaves of the host plant's entire microbiome.

Computer-Guided Trypanocidal Activity of Natural Lactones Produced by Endophytic Fungus of Euphorbia umbellata

Diversity and Biocontrol Potential of Culturable Endophytic Fungi in Cotton

Summary: Healthy cotton samples were collected and 93 endophytic fungal strains were isolated, with 20 different species showing diversity in taxonomy. Among these strains, Fusarium and Alternaria were found to be dominant genera. One effective strain, Fusarium proliferatum 10R-7, produced fusaric acid which exhibited strong inhibition of Verticillium dahliae but was less effective in suppressing cotton Verticillium wilt. The study also revealed that F. proliferatum 10R-7 can colonize inside cotton taproots, indicating a potential role of endophytic colonization in suppressing V. dahliae infection.
