General hospital outbreak of invasive candidiasis due to azole-resistant Candida parapsilosis associated with an Erg11 Y132F mutation

Dora E. Corzo-Leon et al.

Summary: This study reports the first outbreak of invasive candidiasis in Mexico caused by azole-resistant C. parapsilosis associated with the Y132F substitution. It identified the genetic mutations leading to this resistance in several isolates of C. parapsilosis. Some of the isolates showed close relatedness within the same cluster based on microsatellite typing.

Clonal Candidemia Outbreak by Candida parapsilosis Carrying Y132F in Turkey: Evolution of a Persisting Challenge

Amir Arastehfar et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the microbiological and clinical profiles of candidemia patients due to Candida parapsilosis at Ege University Hospital in 2019-2020, revealing a significant emergence of severe fluconazole-non-susceptible (FNS) isolates, particularly with the Y132F mutation. Patients infected with C. parapsilosis carrying Y132F showed therapeutic failure and higher mortality rates, highlighting the urgent need for infection control strategies, antifungal stewardship, and environmental screening at EUH.

Environmental Clonal Spread of Azole-Resistant Candida parapsilosis with Erg11-Y132F Mutation Causing a Large Candidemia Outbreak in a Brazilian Cancer Referral Center

Summary: This study identified for the first time the environmental sources of ARCP isolates causing persistent clonal outbreaks, which showed resistance to fluconazole. ARCP isolates were associated with a higher crude mortality rate and demonstrated resistance to disinfectants.
