The LAMMER Kinase, LkhA, Affects Aspergillus fumigatus Pathogenicity by Modulating Reproduction and Biosynthesis of Cell Wall PAMPs

Joo-Yeon Lim et al.

Summary: The LAMMER kinase AfLkhA in Aspergillus fumigatus plays a crucial role in multiple cellular processes, including development and virulence, by modulating the expression of key developmental regulatory genes. Its deletion affects colonial growth, conidia production, and sexual development, as well as the content of cell wall pathogen-associated molecular patterns. The absence of AfLkhA also results in increased production of mycotoxins and protease activity, and alters the interaction between conidia and macrophages, ultimately impacting pathogenicity at the organismal level.

Functional Genomic and Biochemical Analysis Reveals Pleiotropic Effect of Congo Red on Aspergillus fumigatus

Zhonghua Liu et al.

Summary: The study explores the inhibition of fungal growth by Congo red and the discovery of Quasimodo cells in resistant mutants that facilitate the absorption of the drug and promote the growth of remaining fungi. It also reveals a novel drug-induced growth stimulation effect after long-term exposure to Congo red.
