Fungal diversity notes 1387-1511: taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions on genera and species of fungal taxa

Summary: This article presents 125 fungal taxa, including three new genera and 69 new species. The descriptions and illustrations are based on morphological examination of fresh specimens, coupled with analysis of phylogenetic sequence data to better integrate taxa into appropriate taxonomic ranks and infer their evolutionary relationships.

New species and records of Helicosporium sensu lato from Taiwan, with a reflection on current generic circumscription

Summary: This study describes and illustrates five species of Helicosporium fungi from freshwater streams in Taiwan, including two new species and several new records. A taxonomic key to Helicosporium sensu stricto is provided, with a brief discussion on the current generic circumscription of helicosporous taxa based on phylogeny.

Koorchaloma oryzae sp. nov. (Stachybotryaceae, Sordariomycetes), from Oryza sativa (Poaceae) in northern Thailand

Summary: A new species of Koorchaloma, named Koorchaloma oryzae sp. nov., is described in this study based on morphology and multigene phylogenetic analyses. The new species clusters with K. europaea with moderate statistical support and can be distinguished from it by conidiophores and conidia. Genealogical concordance phylogenetic species recognition analysis results are provided for the new species and closely related species.

One New Species and Two New Host Records of Apiospora from Bamboo and Maize in Northern Thailand with Thirteen New Combinations

Summary: This study investigated four Apiospora taxa obtained from decaying stems of bamboo and maize in northern Thailand. Through morphological characteristics and molecular data analysis, a new Apiospora species, two new host records, and the reclassification of thirteen species previously identified as Arthrinium into Apiospora were introduced.

Summary: Defining and recognizing fungal species has long been a controversial issue, with over 30 species criteria proposed since Darwin's origin of species. Phylogenetic analyses based on multiple loci are widely used, but can mask discordances among fungal groups. In order to delimit fungal species, phylogenetic and phenotypic coherence, as well as the timing of events leading to speciation, need to be considered.
