Airborne Food Allergen and Aeroallergen Levels in Health Care Settings: An Unaccounted for but Potentially Relevant Source of Exposure?

M. Leal et al.

Summary: The study assessed concentrations of airborne food and aeroallergens in health care settings in Portugal, finding higher levels of food allergens in areas such as the emergency department. Exposure levels for dust mite and cat and dog dander in healthcare facilities exceeded values associated with sensitization and allergic asthma or rhinitis symptoms in sensitized individuals, except in the operating room.

Effect of Ethanol Vapor Treatment on the Growth of Alternaria alternata and Botrytis cinerea and Defense-Related Enzymes of Fungi-Inoculated Blueberry During Storage

Yaru Ji et al.

Summary: The study showed that ethanol vapor effectively inhibited the growth of fungi and enhanced the activities of defense-related enzymes in blueberries. Particularly, the 500μlL(-1) ethanol vapor treatment had a significant impact on the activities of defense-related enzymes. However, the activity of PPO decreased in the treated blueberries after storage.

Trichoderma virens Bys1 may competitively inhibit its own effector protein Alt a 1 to stabilize the symbiotic relationship with plant-evidence from docking and simulation studies

Rakesh Kumar et al.

Summary: The filamentous fungi Trichoderma spp. can release effector proteins to suppress plant defense, favoring root colonization, and may neutralize its own effector protein by releasing analogues of host defense proteins to minimize damage to host tissues. This mechanism helps achieve a stable symbiotic relationship with plants.

Sensitization against Fungi in Patients with Airway Allergies over 20 Years in Germany

Susann Forkel et al.

Summary: Over the past 20 years, there has been a slight increase in the prevalence of sensitization to 12 fungi in central Germany, with significant increases in polysensitization to Alternaria, Aspergillus, and Cladosporium in the last decade. Sensitization to fungi is age-dependent, peaking in the 21-40 age group during the second decade.

Summary: ILC2s are a type of cells that play critical roles in defending against parasites and allergens, producing large amounts of inflammatory factors upon activation. Studies have revealed novel properties of post-activation ILC2s, such as the generation of immunological memory and activation-induced migration.

An overview of possible pathogenesis mechanisms of Alternaria alternata in chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis

Mojtaba Didehdar et al.

Summary: Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a multifactorial disease, with Alternaria alternata playing a potentially key role in the pathogenesis, interacting with the immune system to cause chronic inflammation and nasal polyps. Studies have shown that high levels of specific immune responses are associated with nasal polyps.
