Sorbicillinoids from the alga-epiphytic fungus Trichoderma reesei Z56-8

Xin-Yue Ma et al.

Summary: A new highly transformed sorbicillinoid derivative, trichoreesin A (1), along with four known monomeric sorbicillinoids, were discovered from an epiphyte of marine brown alga Sargassum sp. The structure and relative configuration of 1 were determined by interpreting various spectroscopic signals, and its absolute configuration was assigned using quantum chemical calculations. This study provides the first survey of metabolites from marine algicolous Trichoderma reesei and highlights the potential inhibition of marine phytoplankton species by compound 1.

New metabolites produced by endophyte Clonostachys rosea B5-2

Unang Supratman et al.

Summary: The endophytic fungus Clonostachys rosea B5-2 isolated from mangrove plants was subjected to the OSMAC methodology, leading to enhanced production of new secondary metabolites. Modification of the culture media resulted in significant changes in the secondary metabolism of the fungus, inducing the production of four new compounds including (-)-dihydrovertinolide (2), which exhibited phytotoxicity against lettuce seedlings at a concentration of 50 mg L-1.

Men Thi Ngo et al.

Summary: The culture filtrate of Trichoderma longibrachiatum SFC100166 and its metabolites showed potential antifungal effects against Phytophthora infestans, the pathogen causing late blight. New compound spirosorbicillinol D and natural compound 2',3'-dihydro-epoxysorbicillinol exhibited good inhibition effects. Bisvertinolone had a significant impact in reducing the development of tomato late blight in in vitro antifungal assays.

Elucidation of ustilaginoidin biosynthesis reveals a previously unrecognised class of ene-reductases

Dan Xu et al.

Summary: Ustilaginoidins are a type of mycotoxin produced by Ustilaginoidea virens, featuring a dimeric naphtho-gamma-pyrone skeleton. The biosynthesis process involves multiple steps, including the discovery of dimeric compounds and double bond reduction. Different enzymes play roles at different stages, leading to the formation of diverse ustilaginoidins.
