Quantum Jumps in the Non-Hermitian Dynamics of a Superconducting Qubit

Weijian Chen et al.

Summary: This study examines the dynamics of a driven non-Hermitian superconducting qubit perturbed by quantum jumps, highlighting their critical role in causing decoherence and breakdown of adiabatic evolution, especially near exceptional points. The enhanced decoherence rate is attributed to the cube-root topology of non-Hermitian eigenenergies. The research shows how quantum jumps play a key role in extending the applications of classical non-Hermitian systems to open quantum systems for sensing and control.

Exceptional topology of non-Hermitian systems

Emil J. Bergholtz et al.

Summary: This review discusses the current understanding of the role of topology in non-Hermitian systems and its physical consequences in dissipative settings, focusing on the concept of exceptional degeneracies and its distinct phenomena, as well as the new notions of gapped phases in single-band systems. The unique sensitivity of non-Hermitian matrices to boundary conditions is highlighted, leading to anomalous relationships between bulk and boundary physics. Additionally, applications of non-Hermitian topology in classical and quantum systems are reviewed, showing its relevance beyond the field of topological phases.

Exact Liouvillian Spectrum of a One-Dimensional Dissipative Hubbard Model

Masaya Nakagawa et al.

Summary: In this study, a one-dimensional dissipative Hubbard model with two-body loss is shown to be exactly solvable. By using a non-Hermitian extension of the Bethe-ansatz method, an exact eigenspectrum of a Liouvillian supemperator is obtained, revealing phenomena such as spin-charge separation and dissipative effects induced by the quantum Zeno effect. This research introduces a new class of exactly solvable Liouvillians of open quantum many-body systems, which can be experimentally tested using ultracold atoms subject to inelastic collisions.

Nonlinear tuning of PT symmetry and non-Hermitian topological states

Shiqi Xia et al.

Summary: The study established a nonlinear non-Hermitian topological platform for active tuning of PT symmetry and topological states, revealing the interaction between sensitivity close to exceptional points and the robustness of non-Hermitian topological states. The research provides opportunities for unconventional light manipulation and device applications through single-channel control of global PT symmetry and topology via local nonlinearity.

PT-symmetry breaking in a Kitaev chain with one pair of gain-loss potentials

Kaustubh S. Agarwal et al.

Summary: The study obtained the PT threshold for a one-dimensional, finite Kitaev chain and identified a rich phase diagram for the threshold, which can be qualitatively understood in relation to the band structure of the Hermitian Kitaev model. The findings include a re-entrant PT-symmetric phase bounded by second-order exceptional point contours for an even chain with zero on-site potential.

Generating high-order quantum exceptional points in synthetic dimensions

Ievgen I. Arkhipov et al.

Summary: Intense research has been conducted on constructing high-order exceptional points in dissipative systems. Previous methods mainly focused on spatial networks of coupled modes or utilization of synthetic dimensions. A recent simple and effective method has been introduced for engineering non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with high-order quantum EPs.
