Resistance training, gremlin 1 and macrophage migration inhibitory factor in obese men: a randomised trial

Ayoub Saeidi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the effects of different resistance training protocols on gremlin 1, macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), cardiometabolic, and anthropometric measures in obese men. The results showed that circuit resistance training (CRT) and interval resistance training (IRT) had greater beneficial effects on gremlin 1, MIF, body composition, and cardiometabolic risk factors compared to traditional resistance training (TRT) protocol.

A method of separating extracellular vesicles from blood shows potential clinical translation, and reveals extracellular vesicle cargo gremlin-1 as a diagnostic biomarker

Niamh McNamee et al.

Summary: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have shown potential as minimally invasive biomarkers. This study compared six EV separation methods and found that a CD63/CD81/CD9-coated immunobead-based method was most suitable, allowing for the detection of significantly higher levels of EVs and their gremlin-1 cargo in breast cancer patients.

Gremlin: a complex molecule regulating wound healing and fibrosis

Steven O'Reilly

Summary: Gremlin-1, part of the TGF-beta superfamily, acts as a BMP antagonist involved in organ development and limb patterning, as well as being associated with various fibrotic diseases such as diabetic kidney fibrosis. Its effects seem to be mediated by both BMP-dependent and independent pathways, making it a potential therapeutic target for fibrotic diseases with limited treatment options.

Angiogenesis as a hallmark of solid tumors-clinical perspectives

Jamal Majidpoor et al.

Summary: Angiogenesis is a crucial step in tumorigenesis, with abnormal tumor vasculature leading to hypoxia and acidity in the tumor microenvironment, enhancing tumor aggression. High interstitial fluid pressure can act as a barrier for drug delivery, contributing to tumor resistance to therapy. Combination of anti-angiogenesis therapy with other modalities is a promising strategy for advanced cancers.
