Low-intensity photobiomodulation at 632.8 nm increases tgfβ3, col2a1, and sox9 gene expression in rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in vitro

M. S. Bozhokin et al.

Summary: The study found that the low-intensity laser photobiomodulation at 632.8 nm plays a role in chondrogenesis by increasing the expression of related genes. In contrast, the effect of Tgf beta 3 cytokine is more significant in promoting chondrogenesis.

Clinical Trials Based on Mesenchymal Stromal Cells are Exponentially Increasing: Where are We in Recent Years?

Umberto Galderisi et al.

Summary: Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have been widely utilized in clinical trials, particularly for treating cardiovascular diseases, GvHD, and brain and neurological disorders. Despite some successes, there have also been failures in MSC-based therapies. Integrating data from unsuccessful studies may aid in developing new therapeutic strategies to improve clinical outcomes.

Glioblastoma Therapy: Rationale for a Mesenchymal Stem Cell-based Vehicle to Carry Recombinant Viruses

Sakhawat Ali et al.

Summary: This study summarizes the reactivation of tumor suppressor genes p53 and PTEN in glioblastoma (GB) treatment and the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as a Trojan horse to deliver oncolytic viral cargo to disseminated tumor beds. The integration of MSCs and OVs could potentially become a new paradigm in cancer treatment.

Characterization of patient-derived bone marrow human mesenchymal stem cells as oncolytic virus carriers for the treatment of glioblastoma

Yuzaburo Shimizu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the feasibility of obtaining bone marrow-derived human mesenchymal stem cells (BM-hMSCs) from patients with recurrent malignant glioma previously treated with marrow-toxic chemotherapy. Results showed that patient-derived BM-hMSCs (PD-BM-hMSCs) could effectively deliver oncolytic viruses and eradicate human gliomas in vitro and in vivo.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Mediated Drug Delivery in Tumor-Targeted Therapy

Mengying Xie et al.

Summary: MSCs, with low immunogenicity and the ability to selectively target inflammation and tumor sites, have shown positive safety and potential for cancer therapy. They can deliver gene therapeutic agents, oncolytic viruses, and chemotherapeutics, with promising applications in tumor-targeted therapy.

Involvement of various chemokine/chemokine receptor axes in trafficking and oriented locomotion of mesenchymal stem cells in multiple sclerosis patients

Gholamhossein Hassanshahi et al.

Summary: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic immune-mediated disease with no known treatment yet. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) show promise in MS treatment by their ability to migrate and home into the CNS. The chemokine/chemokine receptor axes play a pivotal role in MSC trafficking and their targeted tropism to the CNS in MS patients.

Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Differentially Affect Glioblastoma Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion: A 2D-DIGE Proteomic Analysis

Shenjie Li et al.

Summary: The conditioned medium from BM-MSCs inhibits the proliferation of C6 cells but promotes their migration and invasion. Proteomic analysis revealed differentially expressed proteins in C6 cells exposed to the BM-MSC-conditioned medium, some of which are related to cell proliferation and differentiation, while others are associated with motility and the cytoskeleton, potentially modulating invasion and migration of tumor cells. This study suggests that BM-MSCs could be genetically modified for tumor-suppressive factors in future tumor-selective targeting carriers.

Mesenchymal stem cells loaded with oncolytic reovirus enhances antitumor activity in mice models of colorectal cancer

Abouzar Babaei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) loaded with ReoT3D had a superior anticancer effect, inducing apoptosis, cell cycle arrests, increased P53 expression in tumor sections, and reduced tumor growth and size. These findings suggest the potential clinical application of MSCs as a carrier for oncolytic virus (OV) delivery in colorectal cancer models.
