Repurposed Antiviral Drugs for Covid-19-Interim WHO Solidarity Trial Results

Summary: The authors of the study reported the interim results of using four repurposed antiviral drugs (remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir, and interferon beta-1a) in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The study showed that these drug regimens had little or no effect on overall mortality, initiation of ventilation, and duration of hospital stay.

Azithromycin in patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19 (RECOVERY): a randomised, controlled, open-label, platform trial

Summary: Azithromycin has been proposed as a treatment for COVID-19 due to its immunomodulatory actions. However, a study in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 showed that azithromycin did not improve survival or other clinical outcomes. Beneficial effects of colchicine for moderate to severe COVID-19: a randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial

Summary: Colchicine showed benefits in the treatment of COVID-19 patients by reducing the need for supplemental oxygen and length of hospitalisation. It did not necessarily reduce mortality, but was safe and well tolerated with the potential side effect of diarrhea.
