An Inorganic-Rich Solid Electrolyte Interphase for Advanced Lithium-Metal Batteries in Carbonate Electrolytes

Sufu Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, an inorganic-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) was designed on the Li-metal surface in carbonate electrolytes to reduce the bonding energy with Li metal, enabling high Li plating/stripping efficiency and cycling performance. The weak bonding of the SEI to Li promotes Li diffusion and prevents Li dendrite penetration, resulting in a high Coulombic efficiency during cycling.

Recent Progress in Understanding Solid Electrolyte Interphase on Lithium Metal Anodes

Haiping Wu et al.

Summary: The structure, properties, and influencing factors of SEI play a crucial role in the performance of lithium metal batteries. Efficient strategies for tailoring SEI involve understanding the composition, models, and properties of SEI, as well as the correlations between electrolyte components and SEI. Future directions include in-operando techniques, multi-modality approaches for SEI characterization, and artificial intelligence assisted understanding of SEI properties.

Electrolyte-Resistant Dual Materials for the Synergistic Safety Enhancement of Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lien-Yang Chou et al.

Summary: A feasible method has been developed to balance flame retardancy and electrochemical performance on commercial battery separators by coating an electrolyte-insoluble flame retardant. The composite separator showed four times better flame retardancy than conventional polyolefin separators in full pouch cells, and it can be easily fabricated on a large scale for industrial applications. High-energy-density batteries (2 Ah) assembled with the composite separator confirmed its enhanced safety through nail penetration tests.
