Reaction Mechanism and Structural Evolution of Fluorographite Cathodes in Solid-State K/Na/Li Batteries

Zhengping Ding et al.

Summary: The research reveals a two-phase mechanism during K/Na/Li ion insertion, with crystalline KF forming uniformly within the amorphous carbon matrix, and the diffusion rate of K/Na/Li ions in CFx being comparable to that in liquid-state cells. The study also demonstrates the potential for a rechargeable all-solid-state Li/CFx battery design, showing reversible specific discharge capacity at the 2nd cycle.

Edge-Propagation Discharge Mechanism in CFx Batteries-A First-Principles and Experimental Study

Kevin Leung et al.

Summary: In this study, the discharge mechanism of graphite fluoride (CFx) cathodes during lithium insertion at the CF/C boundary was investigated using density functional theory calculations. The predicted voltage range of 2.5 to 2.9 V, depending on solvent involvement, agrees with experimental measurements. This research has the potential to improve the practical energy density, rate capability, and rechargeability of CFx batteries.

All-Temperature, High-Energy-Density Li/CFx Batteries Enabled by a Fluorinated Ether as a Cosolvent

Jun Ban et al.

Summary: A CFx-compatible fluorinated ether-containing electrolyte was introduced to improve the conductivity and wettability of Li/CFx batteries, resulting in enhanced electrochemical performance at high temperatures. The modified electrolyte containing TTE significantly increased the energy density of Li/CFx batteries, enabling high power and voltage outputs across a wide temperature range from -50 to 55 degrees C.
