In vacuo XPS investigation of surface engineering for lithium metal anodes with plasma treatment

Bo Zhao et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the pristine Li surface is naturally covered with an oxidized layer, which can be efficiently removed by plasma treatments to obtain different surface compositions like metallic Li, Li2O, and Li3N. Among these, the Li3N coated Li electrode shows superior stability in symmetric Li metal batteries.

A Salt-in-Metal Anode: Stabilizing the Solid Electrolyte Interphase to Enable Prolonged Battery Cycling

Lin Fu et al.

Summary: The concept of salt-in-metal is proposed in this study, where a Li/LiNO3 composite foil is constructed to embed LiNO3 into the bulk structure of metallic Li. This helps in achieving a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and regulating the nucleation and growth processes of Li, reducing dendritic Li growth. This approach results in stable cycling and high capacity retention for rechargeable batteries.

A high-performance, solution-processable polymer/ceramic/ionic liquid electrolyte for room temperature solid-state Li metal batteries

Xiujing Lin et al.

Summary: All-solid-state electrolytes provide a guarantee for the safe operation of Li metal batteries with high energy density, but face challenges of low ionic conductivity and huge interfacial impedance with lithium anodes. The introduction of ionic liquids is expected to solve these issues, as shown in this study where an in situ LiF-rich solid-electrolyte interface on the lithium anode was triggered by the reductive decomposition of IL and Li1.5Al0.5Ge1.5(PO4)3-involved electrolyte, leading to stable Li plating/stripping behavior and high performance in solid-state LMBs.

An advanced solid polymer electrolyte composed of poly(propylene carbonate) and mesoporous silica nanoparticles for use in all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries

Pravin N. Didwal et al.

Summary: CSPEs are potential materials to replace hazardous organic liquid electrolytes in LIBs, as they are easy to process and allow better interfacial contact. However, their poor mechanical strength, low ionic conductivity, and limited cycling stability hinder their practical applications. By utilizing PPC as the host matrix and highly mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) as the filler, a cost-effective, flexible, and stable CSPE was developed with enhanced physico-electrochemical properties. The interaction of Li+ with PPC and MSNs contributes to the excellent performance of the CSPE, opening up new possibilities for solid-state battery fabrication and engineering.
