Nonthermal plasma-vulcanized flower-like ZnS/Zn-Al composites from Zn-Al layered double hydroxides for the adsorption-photo-reduction of Cr(VI)

Xiaogang Zheng et al.

Summary: ZnS-modified Zn-Al layered double oxides prepared via in-situ vulcanization of dielectric barrier discharge plasma exhibit enhanced adsorption-photocatalytic activity for the removal of Cr(VI) in the visible light region. The performance of ZnS/Zn-Al composites is greatly affected by various factors, and the Langmuir isotherm and second-order model are suitable for describing their adsorption behavior.

Fabrication of BiOI nanosheets with exposed (001) and (110) facets with different methods for photocatalytic oxidation elemental mercury

Yixuan Xiao et al.

Summary: The BiOI nanosheets with dominantly exposed (001) facets exhibited better photocatalytic oxidation activity due to the conducive separation and migration of free radical carriers on this crystal plane, which promoted the photocatalytic reaction. This suggests that exposing dominant crystal planes can improve photocatalyst activity for environmental purification applications.

Noble-metal-free ultrathin MXene coupled with In2S3 nanoflakes for ultrafast photocatalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium

Huoshuai Huang et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the conversion of highly toxic hexavalent chromium to low-toxic trivalent chromium in the environment, and a dual noble-metal-free photocatalyst made of MXene and indium sulfide is prepared for ultrafast photocatalytic reduction. By effectively enhancing charge separation, the photocatalyst can completely reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III) within 6 minutes with a fast rate constant.

Synthesis and application of Fe3O4/FeWO4 composite as an efficient and magnetically recoverable visible light-driven photocatalyst for the reduction of Cr(VI)

Ting Ge et al.

Summary: Fe3O4/FeWO4 composites synthesized via hydrothermal method showed high efficiency in photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) under visible light, along with good photocatalytic stability and magnetism. The 20% Fe3O4/FeWO4 composite exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency at lower pH levels.

Boosting solar driven hydrogen evolution rate of CdS nanorods adorned with MoS2 and SnS2 nanostructures

Ramanadha Mangiri et al.

Summary: The hierarchical 1D CdS nanorods decorated with MoS2-SnS2 nanocomposites showed a significant enhancement in H-2 evolution under solar light irradiation. The hydrogen production rate of the CdS/MoS2-SnS2 (6 wt%) nanocomposites reached 185.36 mmol. h(-1). g(-1), indicating its superior performance compared to pristine CdS and MoS2-loaded CdS nanorods. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of MoS2-SnS2 loaded CdS nanorods could be attributed to factors such as high light harvesting capability, bifurcation of electron-hole pairs, trapping sites, active catalytic zones, migration of charge carriers, and suitable energy levels.
