Summary: Germans often misjudge the urgency of medical events and choose the wrong service in some cases, such as not calling an ambulance for stroke or myocardial infarction. In situations of medium urgency, more respondents opt to visit the emergency department rather than call the medical on-call service.

Health Literacy in Germany before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the health literacy of the German population has tended to improve, especially in the evaluation of health information and digital health literacy. Women, individuals with lower or medium education levels, younger people, and those with a migration background benefited more than others, while older individuals and those with multiple chronic conditions did not show improvement and, in fact, indicated a worsening.

Adequate Utilization of Emergency Services in Germany: Is There a Differential by Migration Background?

Summary: The study found that first generation migrants have lower odds of adequate use of emergency services compared to non-migrants, while no statistically significant difference was found for second generation migrants. This suggests a need for structural changes in the healthcare system to lower the threshold for access to general practices based on the needs of diverse migrant patient subgroups.
