Human impact, climate and dispersal strategies determine plant invasion on islands

Specifically, leaf area values showed good agreement between scientific floras and field-measured data, while specific leaf area values had a weaker relationship. Summary: Phylogenetic analysis has shown that Argyranthemum broussonetii is polyphyletic, with its subspecies being resolved in separate clades within the Macaronesian endemic genus Argyranthemum. Differences between the subspecies in leaf traits illustrate adaptation to similar habitats, with their distinction relying on capitula and cypselae characteristics. The proposed recognition of A. broussonetii subsp. gomerensis as a subspecies of A. callichrysum is supported by similarities in capitula and cypselae characters.

New records in vascular plants alien to Tenerife (Spain, Canary Islands)

Summary: Recent fieldwork by the author in Tenerife from 2014 to 2019 yielded new records of alien vascular plants, many of which were introduced as ornamentals and are now escaping cultivation. While most of these plants are ephemeral or locally established, they have the potential to naturalize in the future.

Evolutionary winners are ecological losers among oceanic island plants

Summary: Adaptive radiation, a popular but potentially misleading characterization of evolution, is examined in the context of the Canary Islands' plant communities. The study finds that plant species of non-diversified lineages dominate major ecosystems, while species of diversified lineages are mainly found in rare habitats and could be considered ecological losers. This suggests that evolutionary success in plants on oceanic islands is typically achieved in marginal habitats.
