The experimental results showed that the flexural bearing capacity of SFRC beams significantly increased with the use of high-strength steel bars, and the bond efficiency defined by ACI guidelines was conservative. The probability distribution of bond efficiency for steel fiber in the tensile zone was analyzed to propose a range for predicting the flexural carrying capacity of SFRC beams.
The applicability of bond efficiency of steel fiber in the flexural bearing capacity calculation of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams was experimentally investigated through tests on 18 SFRC beams and one reinforced concrete (RC) beam. The test results indicated that the flexural bearing capacity of SFRC beams increased significantly with the use of high-strength steel bars, and the bond efficiency of the steel fiber in the tensile zone of reinforced concrete beams according to ACI 544.4R-88 [1] is conservative for the flexural carrying capacity calculation of SFRC beams containing high-strength steel bars. The probability distribution of the bond efficiency of steel fiber in the tensile zone of reinforced concrete beams was analyzed through experimental data collected from relevant literature. The bond efficiency of different types of steel fibers with different guarantee rates was determined. A range of bond efficiency for steel fiber in the tensile zone of reinforced concrete beams was proposed to predict the flexural carrying capacity of SFRC beams.
