Hybrid humic acid/titanium dioxide nanomaterials as highly effective antimicrobial agents against gram(-) pathogens and antibiotic contaminants in wastewater

Giuseppe Vitiello et al.

Summary: Hybrid humic acid/titanium dioxide nanostructured materials show promising antibacterial activity against various pathogens and selective sequestering of specific antibiotics, with a technological approach highlighted for the design of multifunctional nanomaterials addressing environmental and health problems related to water contamination by antibiotics and pathogens.

Modified humic acids mediate efficient mineralization in a photo-bio-electro-Fenton process

Han Dai et al.

Summary: This study reported qualitative changes in electron-modified HA and the underlying mechanisms, improving photochemical activity and electron-donating capacity of HA. The novel system achieved mineralization of HA and EE2, a common synthetic estrogen, without the use of hydrogen peroxide. Effluents from the system showed decreased endocrine-disrupting activity, demonstrating a new approach for water treatment using HA.
