Photosynthetic performance of quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) after exposure to a gradual drought stress followed by a recovery period

Arafet Manaa et al.

Summary: Short-term drought had minor effects on photosynthetic performance of Chenopodium quinoa Willd, while prolonged drought led to thylakoid swelling and starch accumulation, resulting in decreased quantum yields of photosystem I and II.

Improved Quinoa Growth, Physiological Response, and Yield by Hydropriming Under Drought Stress Conditions

Fathollah Nadali et al.

Summary: Water treatment significantly influences drought tolerance of quinoa cultivars, improving growth and seed yield; under field conditions, quinoa cultivars exhibit negative responses to drought stress, but seed priming enhances drought tolerance.

Proximal Hyperspectral Imaging Detects Diurnal and Drought-Induced Changes in Maize Physiology

Stien Mertens et al.

Summary: Hyperspectral imaging is a useful tool for non-destructive phenotyping of plant physiological traits, especially for studying responses to drought, development, and day-night cycles. With better understanding of spectral measurements, it has been demonstrated to accurately predict physiological changes in plants under different conditions using advanced processing techniques such as partial least squares regression.

Studying the Impact of Different Field Environmental Conditions on Seed Quality of Quinoa: The Case of Three Different Years Changing Seed Nutritional Traits in Southern Europe

Sara Granado-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: The study on Chenopodium quinoa Willd (quinoa) has shown that the nutritional properties of quinoa seeds are significantly influenced by the year of cultivation and different genotypes. The research found variations in nutritional parameters among different quinoa cultivars and identified 2018 as a year with lower yields, germination rates, but higher seed weights and seed protein contents. This work contributes to increased understanding of the impact of environment and genotype on the nutritional properties of quinoa seeds, particularly in regions with similar climatic conditions to Southern Europe.

Free and Conjugated Phenolic Profiles and Antioxidant Activity in Quinoa Seeds and Their Relationship with Genotype and Environment

Fabiana Antognoni et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the profile of bioactive compounds in seeds of two quinoa varieties grown in northern Italy with those grown in Chile and Denmark. The results showed that although there were some differences in polyphenolic profile and biological activities, good-quality quinoa can still be grown in northern Italy.

Quinoa for the Brazilian Cerrado: Agronomic Characteristics of Elite Genotypes under Different Water Regimes

Patricia Carvalho da Silva et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different water regimes on agronomic characteristics, physiology, and grain quality of elite quinoa genotypes in the Cerrado region. Results showed varying responses of genotypes to water management, highlighting the importance of considering water use efficiency when choosing genotypes for cultivation in different seasons.
