Influence of corn residue biochar on water retention and penetration resistance in a calcareous sandy loam soil

N. Saffari et al.

Summary: Biochar derived from corn residue could significantly improve the physicochemical properties of soil, increasing soil porosity and water retention ability, which is beneficial for plant growth. The study found that the pore size distribution in biochar-amended soil was more conducive to water infiltration and retention.

Bio-Compost-Based Integrated Soil Fertility Management Improves Post-Harvest Soil Structural and Elemental Quality in a Two-Year Conservation Agriculture Practice

Mohammad Mofizur Rahman Jahangir et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) in conservation agriculture can increase rice equivalent yield and nitrogen uptake, while minimum tillage (MT) positively affects soil structural stability and elemental quality. Using Trichocompost and retaining residue under MT can improve soil fertility and physical stability, thereby sustaining crop productivity.

Nitrogen Release in Soils Amended with Different Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers under Contrasting Moisture Regimes: A Laboratory Incubation Study

Shihab Uddin et al.

Summary: Understanding nitrogen release patterns and kinetics in soils amended with organic materials and chemical fertilizers is crucial for improving nitrogen use efficiency. NH4+-N was dominant in conditions with continuous standing water, while NO3--N was dominant under field capacity conditions. The first order kinetic model was a good fit for net mineral nitrogen data, with greater N release potential and rate constant in acidic soils compared to charland soils. Gaseous nitrogen losses varied depending on the type of organic amendments, with PM, CD and CO based IPNS showing higher losses. Biochar based IPNS increased soil pH in all conditions.

Lime and Manure Amendment Improve Soil Fertility, Productivity and Nutrient Uptake of Rice-Mustard-Rice Cropping Pattern in an Acidic Terrace Soil

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the combined application of lime and organic manure can significantly improve crop yield and nutrient absorption in acidic terrace soils, especially showing more pronounced effects on the second and third crops. This soil amendment method helps enhance nutrient availability and soil quality, ultimately leading to increased crop productivity.

Lime and Organic Manure Amendment: A Potential Approach for Sustaining Crop Productivity of the T. Aman-Maize-Fallow Cropping Pattern in Acidic Piedmont Soils

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the highest grain yield for T. Aman and maize was achieved when dololime was applied in combination with poultry manure. The application of lime with cow dung or poultry manure significantly enhanced nutrient content and uptake in both crops, leading to increased productivity.

Lime and Organic Manure Amendment Enhances Crop Productivity of Wheat-Mungbean-T. Aman Cropping Pattern in Acidic Piedmont Soils

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam et al.

Summary: The application of lime and organic manure significantly improved crop productivity and nutrient uptake in the wheat-mungbean-T. Aman cropping pattern in acidic soils. The combined application of lime and manure had more pronounced effects on the second and third crops, leading to significant increases in grain and straw yields. This suggests that a combination of lime and manure can effectively enhance soil quality and uplift crop productivity in acidic Piedmont soils.

Ammonia fluxes and emission factors under an intensively managed wetland rice ecosystem

S. Uddin et al.

Summary: Nitrogen loss in rice production systems through ammonia (NH3) emissions can have significant economic and environmental costs. Study results showed that different soil management systems and fertilization practices can impact NH3 emissions, emphasizing NH3 fluxes as a potentially large pathway of nitrogen loss in wetland rice fields.
