Detection of cysteine-rich peptides in Tragia benthamii Baker (Euphorbiaceae) and in vivo antiinflammatory effect in a chick model

Summary: This study revealed the presence of cysteine-rich biologically active peptides in Tragia benthamii for the first time. The stable peptide extracts from this plant exhibited anti-inflammatory activity in a chick in vivo model and showed no toxicity to Artemia salina. Further research is needed to explore its anti-inflammatory mechanisms and potential therapeutic applications.

Summary: Plant stinging hairs, divided into two basic types, are specialized structures used for defense against mammalian herbivores but are inefficient against invertebrate pests. The physiological effects of stinging hairs on humans vary widely among different plant species, ranging from mild itchiness to serious neurological disorders. Further research is needed to fully understand the chemical basis and neurotoxic effects of stinging hairs in plants.

Global documentation of traditionally used medicinal plants in cancer management: A systematic review

Summary: The study systematically reviewed ethnopharmacological surveys worldwide, documenting the use of 948 plant species from 153 families and 628 genera against cancer in 62 countries. Leguminosae and Compositae were the main families with the most anticancer species, while Ghana had the most reported species, followed by Palestine, India, Nigeria, Brazil, Kenya, Pakistan, and South Africa. Leaves were the most preferred part used and oral administration was mostly utilized for preparation.

Medicinal Plants Used for the Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction in Ethiopia: A Systematic Review

Summary: This study systematically reviewed traditional medicinal plants used for erectile dysfunction management in Ethiopia. A total of 70 plant species were identified, with Fabaceae being the most commonly recorded family. Roots were the most commonly used plant part, and most medicinal plants were administered orally. The findings will serve as a reference for further research on developing new plant-based drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
