CsiLAC4 modulates boron flow in Arabidopsis and Citrus via high-boron-dependent lignification of cell walls

Jing-Hao Huang et al.

Summary: The study elucidates the role of the miR397-CsiLAC4/CsiLAC17 module in plant tolerance to excess boron, by regulating lignification of cell walls to reduce B content. Results show that CsiLAC4 and CsiLAC17 are predominantly localized in the apoplast, with CsiLAC4 enhancing plant tolerance to boric acid excess through lignification.

Boron modulates the plasma membrane H+-ATPaseactivity affecting nutrient uptake ofCitrustrees

Guilherme A. Ferreira et al.

Summary: The rootstock variety affects boron absorption, enzyme activity, and nutrient uptake in citrus trees, with excess boron impairing PM H+-ATPase activity. SW variety shows higher boron absorption and enzyme activity, with trees grafted onto SW exhibiting greater performance than those grafted onto RL.

Alleviation of boron toxicity in plants: Mechanisms and approaches

Tianwei Hua et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes recent advances in mechanisms and approaches for alleviating boron toxicity in plants. Three main mechanisms have been outlined: reducing tissue boron concentration, decreasing cellular active boron, and enhancing physiological tolerance. The alleviative approaches include applying nutrient elements, plant growth regulators, plant growth-promoting microbes, as well as leaching boron out of the topsoil and washing boron off plant leaves. Future studies will focus on more practical approaches for alleviating boron toxicity and a better understanding of related mechanisms.

Boron application mitigates Cd toxicity in leaves of rice by subcellular distribution, cell wall adsorption and antioxidant system

Muhammad Riaz et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that boron reduces cadmium translocation in rice and facilitates cadmium adsorption on cell walls, regulating an efficient antioxidant system in rice leaves. Boron application decreases cadmium concentrations in roots and shoots, promoting plant growth.

A Boron supply alleviates cadmium toxicity in rice (Oryza sativa L.) by enhancing cadmium adsorption on cell wall and triggering antioxidant defense system in roots

Muhammad Riaz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the alleviative role of boron on cadmium toxicity in rice seedlings, demonstrating that boron can mitigate cadmium stress by decreasing cadmium uptake and encouraging cadmium adsorption on cell walls, as well as activating protective mechanisms.

Citrus NIP5;1 aquaporin regulates cell membrane water permeability and alters PIPs plasma membrane localization

Mingfei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the function of a novel citrus NIP aquaporin CsNIP5;1 in water transportation, revealing its localization in the endoplasmic reticulum or donut-like structures in citrus callus and tobacco leaf. The interaction with PIPs altered their subcellular localization and regulated water permeability, providing new insights into the regulatory mechanism of AQPs-mediated water diffusion.
