Exogenous Gamma-aminobutyric Acid Coordinates Active Oxygen and Amino Acid Homeostasis to Enhance Heat Tolerance in Wheat Seedlings

Xing Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of exogenous GABA on heat tolerance in wheat seedlings. Results showed that GABA treatment reduced ROS production, enhanced DPPH scavenging capacity, and alleviated malondialdehyde accumulation and cell membrane damage under heat stress. Additionally, GABA promoted soluble protein accumulation and coordinated amino acid homeostasis, strengthening wheat seedling resistance to heat stress.

GABA signalling modulates stomatal opening to enhance plant water use efficiency and drought resilience

Bo Xu et al.

Summary: The study shows that GABA production in guard cells of Arabidopsis reduces stomatal opening and transpirational water loss, thereby enhancing water use efficiency. This highlights a novel role for GABA metabolism in fine tuning plant physiology and offers new possibilities for enhancing plant stress resilience.

Hypoxia-induced increase in GABA content is essential for restoration of membrane potential and preventing ROS-induced disturbance to ion homeostasis

Qi Wu et al.

Summary: When plants are exposed to hypoxic conditions, the level of GABA in plant tissues significantly increases, playing a critical role in restoring membrane potential and preventing disturbance in cytosolic K+ homeostasis and Ca2+ signaling induced by ROS.
