Osmoregulation and its actions during the drought stress in plants

Munir Ozturk et al.

Summary: Drought stress, exacerbated by climate change, has a significant impact on crop yield and quality, necessitating serious measures to increase crop tolerance. Plants undergo physiological and biochemical changes under drought stress, highlighting the importance of maintaining osmotic adjustment.

Identifying new compounds with potential pharmaceutical and physiological activity in Areca catechu and Areca triandra via a non-targeted metabolomic approach

Jiao Wu et al.

Summary: This study identified a total of 791 metabolites, with 115 metabolites mapped to 44 KEGG metabolic pathways and 154 metabolites showing significantly different levels in A. catechu compared to A. triandra. Several components with known biological activities were identified for the first time in A. catechu and A. triandra, showing similar abundance between the two species but significant differences between the pericarp and seeds of A. catechu fruits. These findings suggest that Areca species have similar primary and secondary metabolites, making them valuable sources for traditional medicine and potential further studies on pharmaceutical and physiological effects.

Photosynthetic apparatus performance of tomato seedlings grown under various combinations of LED illumination

Ahmed F. Yousef et al.

Summary: The study found that the tomato photosynthetic apparatus responded differently to light of different spectral qualities, with the best performance observed under a mixture of red and blue light or a mixture of red, green, and blue light. High proportion of blue light led to an increase in non-photochemical quenching. These results can help improve tomato plant production under artificial light conditions.

Maize Responses Challenged by Drought, Elevated Daytime Temperature and Arthropod Herbivory Stresses: A Physiological, Biochemical and Molecular View

Cristhian Camilo Chavez-Arias et al.

Summary: Maize is a major cereal crop grown worldwide, but global climate change has led to increased abiotic and biotic stress events such as drought and heat. Plants have developed various physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses to cope with these stresses, while the behavior of herbivorous arthropods under drought scenarios remains unclear. The combination of different environmental stresses and biotic factors results in complex plant responses.
