Evaluation of NH4+ Adsorption Capacity in Water of Coffee Husk-Derived Biochar at Different Pyrolysis Temperatures

Nguyen Van Phuong et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the NH4+ removal capacity of biochar derived from coffee husk at different temperatures. It was found that biochar prepared at lower pyrolysis temperature has a higher adsorption capacity for NH4+. Langmuir and Freundlich models, as well as the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, were suitable for explaining NH4+ adsorption equilibrium and kinetics on the biochar forms derived from coffee husk.

Ammonium adsorption, desorption and recovery by acid and alkaline treated zeolite

Sofia Maria Muscarella et al.

Summary: In this study, the suitability of zeolite as a medium for ammonium adsorption, desorption, and recovery from wastewater was investigated. It was found that untreated and HCl-Na treated zeolite had higher adsorption efficiency, with NaCl treatments resulting in faster and more efficient NH4+ adsorption compared to CaCl2 and MgCl2 treatments.

Adsorption characteristics of ammonium onto biochar from an aqueous solution

Shamim A. Begum et al.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of ammonium from water using biochar derived from various wood chips. Results showed that higher biochar dosage led to increased removal of ammonium, with the optimum pH for removal considered to be between 6 to 8. The adsorption isotherm followed both the Langmuir and Freundlich models, indicating the potential for biochar to effectively remove ammonium from aqueous solution.

Review on nickel-based adsorption materials for Congo red

Yingqiu Zheng et al.

Summary: The excessive presence of synthetic dyestuffs in aquatic environments can lead to ecological and health issues that are harmful to sustainable development. Adsorption is considered an effective method for removing dye pollutants from water due to its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, ease of operation, and lack of secondary pollution. Among various dyes, Congo red is a commonly used azo dye. Nickel-based materials have been extensively studied for Congo red adsorption due to their diverse morphology, large specific surface area, and strong affinity towards Congo red. However, the challenge remains in creating nickel-based adsorbents with high efficiency, stability, and recyclability for practical applications.

Ammonium and potassium removal from undiluted and diluted hydrolyzed urine using natural zeolites

Urusha Regmi et al.

Summary: The study focused on comparing the efficiency of two natural zeolites in removing ammonium and potassium from real hydrolyzed urine at different dilution levels. The results showed that highest removal rates were achieved in undiluted urine samples, highlighting the benefits of collecting urine without dilution. Additionally, it was demonstrated that nutrient recovery is possible in diluted urine samples, especially in 10% urine solutions, indicating potential for nutrient removal in water-efficient flush systems.

Adsorption of Nitrate and Ammonium from Water Simultaneously Using Composite Adsorbents Constructed with Functionalized Biochar and Modified Zeolite

Yifei Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers developed a novel modified composite adsorbent by assembling functionalized biochar on modified zeolite for simultaneous adsorption of ammonium and nitrate. The parameters were optimized using Box-Behnken design and response surface methodology. Chemical functional groups were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared adsorption. The study showed that the adsorbent had high adsorption capacity for NH4+ and NO3- and could be effectively regenerated.

Efficacy assessment of natural zeolite containing wastewater on the adsorption behaviour of Direct Yellow 50 from; equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamic studies

Eman A. Alabbad

Summary: This study evaluated the efficiency of using natural zeolite to remove Direct Yellow 50 (DY50) dye from aqueous solutions in a batch system. The results showed that the removal of DY50 was influenced by various factors such as pH, initial concentration, adsorbent dosage, temperature, and contact time. The adsorptive behavior of natural zeolite was described using a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and thermodynamic parameters were also investigated.

H2O2 modified-hydrochar derived from paper waste sludge for enriched surface functional groups and promoted adsorption to ammonium

Lan Huong Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption behavior of NH4+ onto H2O2 modified paper waste sludge-derived hydrochar, finding that the optimal treatment ratio was 40. The modification increased the oxygen-containing functional groups on the hydrochar surface, enhancing the maximum adsorption capacity of NH4+. The mechanisms of NH4+ adsorption included pi-cation interaction, cation exchange, and other factors attributed to the enriched oxygen-containing surface functional groups on the hydrochar's surface.
