The Discovery of Naringenin as Endolysosomal Two-Pore Channel Inhibitor and Its Emerging Role in SARS-CoV-2 Infection

Antonella D'Amore et al.

Summary: Naringenin, a flavonoid found in citrus fruits and tomatoes, has been identified as a blocker of the two-pore channel (TPC) family, which has a role in various diseases. It has been shown to impair new blood vessel formation in solid tumors by specifically targeting TPC activity. The inhibition of TPC by naringenin could be an effective pharmacological strategy in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specialized Metabolites from Ribosome Engineered Strains of Streptomyces clavuligerus

Arshad Ali Shaikh et al.

Summary: This study utilized an overexpression strategy in combination with untargeted metabolomics, molecular networking, and in silico analysis to annotate 28 metabolites not previously reported in Streptomyces clavuligerus. The manipulation of frr and rpsL in specific conditions led to the production of commonly found plant compounds in S. clavuligerus, with different metabolite production profiles observed. Known and putative gene clusters associated with the production of observed compounds were discussed, highlighting the potential of combining traditional strain engineering and metabolomics technologies for the rapid discovery of novel natural products.
