Five major two components systems of Staphylococcus aureus for adaptation in diverse hostile environment

Yuanhao Qiu et al.

Summary: Staphylococcus aureus is an opportunistic human pathogen with complex regulatory networks and virulent gene expression, allowing it to adapt to diverse environments through two component systems. The presence of 16 conserved pairs of two component systems in S. aureus enables interconnected regulatory circuits, influencing each other's expression. Understanding gene regulatory pathways via TCS can provide insights into staphylococcal pathogenicity, with implications for vaccine development and new drug design to combat serious infections caused by S. aureus in humans.

Adaptation and compensation in a bacterial gene regulatory network evolving under antibiotic selection

Vishwa Patel et al.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that early evolutionary response of Escherichia coli to the antibiotic trimethoprim involves derepression of PhoPQ signaling, resulting in the evolution of drug resistance. The outcomes of this evolutionary branch-point are determined by the strength of antibiotic selection pressures.

An Antisense yycF RNA Modulates Biofilm Organization of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Pathogenicity in a Rat Model of Osteomyelitis

Shizhou Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that antisense yycF RNA plays a role in regulating biofilm formation and pathogenicity in Staphylococcus aureus, with overexpression leading to reduced production of YycF protein and biofilm formation. Additionally, overexpression of ASyycF inhibited the transcription and translation of biofilm-related genes, improving vancomycin sensitivity and inhibiting MRSA invasion in a rat tibial infection model. This evidence suggests that ASyycF could be a supplementary strategy for managing S. aureus and MRSA infections.

Antisense yycG modulates the susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus to hydrogen peroxide via the sarA

Shizhou Wu et al.

Summary: Overexpression of ASyycG inhibited the transcription of biofilm formation-related genes, including sarA and icaA. Additionally, the CFU counts and live bacterial ratios of ASyycG biofilm-producing S. aureus treated with H2O2 were notably reduced across all groups. The predicted promoter regions of sarA and icaA genes were directly regulated by YycF.

Cis- and Trans-Encoded Small Regulatory RNAs in Bacillus subtilis

Sabine Brantl et al.

Summary: sRNAs act as abundant posttranscriptional regulators in all three kingdoms of life, with various methods being used to study chromosome-encoded sRNAs in bacteria over the past 20 years; while improved bioinformatics tools can predict potential sRNA targets, experimental confirmation remains challenging; known sRNAs in B. subtilis have defined targets and regulatory mechanisms.
