Coming from the Wild: Multidrug Resistant Opportunistic Pathogens Presenting a Primary, Not Human-Linked, Environmental Habitat

Fernando Sanz-Garcia et al.

Summary: The use and misuse of antibiotics have led to widespread antibiotic-resistant bacteria, posing a significant challenge to human health. Among these bacteria, opportunistic pathogens with an environmental origin are a growing concern in hospitals, showing low susceptibility to currently used antibiotics.

Lower Respiratory Tract Pathogens and Their Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern: A 5-Year Study

Biagio Santella et al.

Summary: Lower respiratory tract infections are among the most common infections in humans, with higher rates observed in male patients and those between the ages of 40-59. Acinetobacter baumannii, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the major bacterial isolates in this study. High rates of antimicrobial resistance pose a significant challenge.

The Role of Whole Genome Sequencing in the Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistant Enterococcus spp.: A Scoping Review

Lindsay A. Rogers et al.

Summary: Enterococcus spp. have emerged as significant nosocomial pathogens and carry various antimicrobial resistance genes. The use of whole genome sequencing in surveillance has been shown to enhance our understanding of antimicrobial resistance in Enterococcus spp. Studies emphasize the importance of ongoing surveillance of enterococci from a One Health perspective.

Trend of Bacterial Uropathogens and Their Susceptibility Pattern: Study of Single Academic High-Volume Center in Italy (2015-2019)

Enrica Serretiello et al.

Summary: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common infection that can affect individuals of different age groups, genders, and pregnancy/menopause states. This study conducted at a university hospital in Italy provides data on UTI incidence, gender distribution, age groups affected, and antibiotic resistance profiles of the most representative bacterial strains. The findings reveal a higher incidence of UTIs in the elderly population, with Gram-negative bacteria and Candida species being commonly identified pathogens.
