Challenges in the management of small-scale marine fisheries conflicts in Ghana

Godfred A. Ameyaw et al.

Summary: Marine fisheries in Ghana provide important socio-economic benefits such as food, livelihoods, employment, income generation, and poverty reduction. However, small-scale fisheries face challenges like overfishing and user conflicts, threatening resource sustainability and social stability. Various types of conflicts, including environmental, gear use, and governance issues, have negative impacts on economic and social development in the country.

Micronutrient supply from global marine fisheries under climate change and overfishing

Eva Maire et al.

Summary: This study examined the availability and vulnerability of micronutrients in marine fish species in 157 countries using global assessments and fisheries catch data. The analysis showed that micronutrient availability and vulnerability varied greatly at a species level, with tropical species demonstrating greater resilience to climate change and overfishing. The study also found that countries with high prevalence of inadequate micronutrient intake tended to have nutrient-dense fish catches, but these fisheries were highly vulnerable to climate change.

Environmental response to growth in the marine economy and urbanization: A heterogeneity analysis of 11 Chinese coastal regions using a panel vector autoregressive model

Qinglong Shao et al.

Summary: This study explores the interactions between marine economic growth, marine pollution, and urbanization in coastal regions of China. It found that marine economic growth had a one-way influence on marine pollution and urbanization, and urbanization played a significant role in explaining the variation of these factors. Urban expansion aggravated environmental damage to the ocean.
