RAND appropriateness panel to determine the applicability of UK guidelines on the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and other strategies in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic

Mark Griffiths et al.

Summary: COVID-19 has become a common cause of ARDS worldwide, with pathophysiological and clinical features that distinguish it from traditional ARDS. An expert panel recommended adherence to evidence-based supportive strategies for managing ARDS, regardless of the presence or absence of COVID-19. For patients with ARDS and COVID-19, routine corticosteroid treatment and a lower threshold for full anticoagulation are recommended based on suspicion for venous thromboembolic disease.

Prospective: Evolution of Chinese Medicine to Treat COVID-19 Patients in China

Jieya Wu et al.

Summary: During the COVID-19 outbreak, the Chinese government recommended six traditional Chinese medicine formulas known as "3-drugs-3-formulas" for treatment, which evolved from TCM and target the pathogenesis of the virus. These formulas focus on controlling systemic inflammation and/or RBS, and an integrative approach combining botanical treatments with conventional drugs should be explored for COVID-19 treatment.

The effect of Chinese herbal medicine on digestive system and liver functions should not be neglected in COVID-19: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis

Shihua Shi et al.

Summary: The study found that Chinese herbal medicine combined with standard pharmacotherapy can reduce the risk of disease progression and shorten the time to viral assay conversion in patients with COVID-19. However, the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine in improving gastrointestinal symptoms and liver function is not significant based on current evidence. Further high-quality trials are needed to confirm the potential efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine.
