Prediction of yields and composition of char from fast pyrolysis of commercial lignocellulosic materials, organosolv fractionated and torrefied olive stones

Duarte Magalhaes et al.

Summary: This study investigated the fast pyrolysis behavior of torrefied olive stones, fractionated olive stones, and lignocellulosic commercial compounds. The results showed that fractionated olive stones provided more accurate predictions of char yields compared to commercial lignocellulosic compounds. Fractionation at 180 degrees Celsius without acid catalyst yielded cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin with the highest degree of purity and resulted in the most accurate predictions of experimental yields of olive stones.

Detoxification of sisal bagasse hydrolysate using activated carbon produced from the gasification of acai waste

Bruna Figueiredo do Nascimento et al.

Summary: In this study, detoxification of sisal bagasse acid hydrolysate was carried out using activated carbon obtained from acai waste, showing effective removal of furfural and other fermentation inhibitors. The adsorption of furfural on activated carbon was fast and efficient, leading to improved conversion of sugars into bioproducts. The experimental results confirmed the effectiveness and promise of the adsorbent for industrial applications in biomass processing.

Testing of electron beam irradiated sheep wool for adsorption of Cr(III) and Co(II) of higher concentrations

Jana Branisa et al.

Summary: Electron beam irradiated sheep wool showed good adsorption properties for Cr(III) and Co(II) of higher concentrations. Different cations generated complex salts with keratin ligands, leading to fitting to specific isotherm models. No model could fit both examined cations simultaneously.

Obtaining activated biochar from olive stone using a bench scale high-pressure thermobalance

M. Puig-Gamero et al.

Summary: Low-cost biomass, olive stone, was utilized to synthesize activated biochar with micro-porosity developed through optimization of steam and CO2 activation conditions. The activated biochars were evaluated as CO2 adsorbent and Sips isotherm model showed the most accurate prediction of the CO2 adsorption isotherms over the pressure range of 1-20 bar at 30 degrees C.
