Atomic-scale insight into the pyrolysis of polycarbonate by ReaxFF-based reactive molecular dynamics simulation

Qiang Liu et al.

Summary: The isothermal pyrolysis behavior of bisphenol-A polycarbonate under anoxic conditions was studied using ReaxFF simulations, which successfully reproduced the main pyrolysis products observed in experiments. The pyrolysis of polycarbonate was dominated by random chain scission, with carbonate groups being more vulnerable to high temperatures. ReaxFF simulations revealed reaction routes of various pyrolysis products and indicated that certain reactions like cyclic oligomer formation, hydrolysis, and transesterification were less likely to occur at extremely high temperatures.

ReaxFF simulations of the synergistic effect mechanisms during co-pyrolysis of coal and polyethylene/polystyrene

Dikun Hong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the co-pyrolysis behaviors of Zhundong coal with polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) using reactive molecular dynamics simulation. The results show that coal promotes primary decomposition of PE at low temperatures but has little effect on PE pyrolysis at high temperatures. Meanwhile, PE and PS significantly promote coal char decomposition at high temperatures, with polystyrene having a more pronounced effect than polyethylene.

A critical review of plant-based insulating fluids for transformer: 30-year development

Zijia Shen et al.

Summary: As mineral oil faces challenges in environmental friendliness and operational efficiency, the demand for plant-based insulating fluids as a renewable and biodegradable alternative has been increasing. With over 20 years of field experience, plant-based oils have been proven to be both cost-effective and safer than mineral oil for transformers.

Pre-hydrogenation stage as a strategy to improve the continuous production of a diesel-like biofuel from palm oil

Juan I. del Rio et al.

Summary: In this study, a diesel-like biofuel was successfully produced from palm oil through two reactions stages under high pressure conditions. Pre-hydrogenation reaction enabled higher conversion and yield, reducing the amount of deoxygenation catalyst needed. Aside from decarboxylation route, decarbonylation and hydrodeoxygenation routes also contributed to the product yield.

Simulation of the diffusion behavior of water molecules in palm oil and mineral oil at different temperatures

Qinpan Qiu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the diffusion behavior of water molecules in palm oil and mineral oil using the molecular dynamics method. It was found that the diffusion capability of water molecules in mineral oil was significantly higher than that in palm oil, and the effect of temperature on water molecule diffusion was greater in mineral oil.
