Hybrid or mono nanofluids for convective heat transfer applications. A critical review of experimental research

Javier P. Vallejo et al.

Summary: Research on nanofluids has mainly focused on traditional mono nanofluids and recently received attention on hybrid nanofluids, aiming to enhance performance through the study of mixed nanomaterials. Experimental studies on the heat transfer performance of these two types of nanofluids have not yet conclusively determined which is more promising for heat transfer applications.

Natural convective heat transfer investigation of nanofluids affected by electrical field with periodically changed direction

Yanjun Chen et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the resuspension and natural convective heat transfer of nanofluids under the influence of an electrical field with periodically changed direction. Results show that nanoparticles can be stably resuspended by the periodically changing electrical field, leading to significantly enhanced heat transfer performance compared to the pure base fluid. This enhancement is influenced by factors such as voltage, concentration, and direction switching time. The proposed heat transfer prediction model for nanofluids under these conditions shows acceptable reliability.

Impact of hybrid nanofluids on MHD flow and heat transfer near a vertical plate with ramped wall temperature

Vemula Rajesh et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the energy augmentation using hybrid nanofluids, aiming to find analytical solutions for unsteady hybrid nanofluid flow with heat transfer past an infinite flat vertical plate. Various effects of hybrid nanofluids on unsteady flow and heat transfer features in the presence of magnetic field, thermal radiation, and temperature-dependent heat source are explored. The results show that an increase in average Nusselt number occurs with nanoparticle volume fraction, and this enhancement can be further improved with the use of hybrid nanofluids.

Isentropic contours of natural convection heat generated enclosures

Wael M. El-Maghlany

Summary: In-house CFD code was used to solve the dimensionless form of the governing equations of heat transfer using a hybrid TDMA method within a high-order finite volume approach. Enclosures with different aspect ratios and heat generation rates were studied, with results showing the iso-contours of entropy within the enclosures. The numerical results correlated total entropy generation with aspect ratio, Rayleigh number, and heat generation.

Ionanofluids natural convection heat transfer and entropy generation in a rectangular cavity: Viscosity influence

Wael M. El-Maghlany et al.

Summary: This study examines the behavior of ionic liquids suspensions with nanoparticles in a real life configuration, finding that heat transfer decreases and entropy generation increases with the addition of nanoparticles. The high viscosity of the ionic liquid limits its applicability in natural convection, suggesting that these new fluids should be used in forced convection instead.

Comprehensive review of the application of phase change materials in residential heating applications

H. M. Teamah

Summary: The paper provides a detailed review of the applications of phase change materials (PCMs) in residential heating, focusing on domestic water heating systems. Various studies were assessed for structural characterization, research methodology, and long term performance, highlighting gaps in the literature and recommendations for future research. The need for enhancing PCM properties, innovative integration of PCM within the system, and optimization of system performance based on real-time accurate weather data were emphasized, along with economic opportunities in different locations worldwide.
