Energy security, economic growth and environmental sustainability in India: Does FDI and trade openness play a role?

Rabindra Nepal et al.

Summary: India plays a critical role in global sustainability due to its status as one of the world's largest emerging economies, with a strong focus on energy security. The study reveals long-term linkages between energy security, FDI, economic output, carbon emissions, and trade openness in India. Encouraging energy-efficient techniques through FDI and attracting investment in renewable energy sectors are essential for reducing carbon emissions and ensuring sustainable economic development in India. These findings serve as important policy lessons for other developing and emerging economies globally.

The dynamic nexus of energy consumption, international trade and economic growth in BRICS and ASEAN countries: A panel causality test

Mohammad Mafizur Rahman

Summary: This study examines the dynamic relationship of energy consumption, international trade, capital, and foreign direct investment (FDI) with economic growth in a panel of BRICS and ASEAN countries from 1990 to 2017. The results show positive and significant effects of these variables on economic growth, and both bidirectional and unidirectional causality relationships were identified among them.

Trade and FDI thresholds of CO2 emissions for a Green economy in sub-Saharan Africa

Simplice Asongu et al.

Summary: The study examines how improving openness influences carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) by focusing on 49 countries for the period 2000-2018. The findings suggest that enhancing trade openness has a net positive impact on CO2 emissions, while increasing FDI has a net negative impact. The relationship between CO2 emissions and trade follows a Kuznets shape, while the nexus with FDI inflows has a U-shape, providing critical masses for promoting a green economy in SSA.
