Glyphosate-degrading behavior of five bacterial strains isolated from stream biofilms

Florent Rossi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the individual degrading behavior of bacterial strains isolated from glyphosate-degrading stream biofilms, revealing different and complementary glyphosate degradation pathways for bacteria co-existing in stream biofilms. Different bacterial strains showed variations in the degradation speed, pathway utilization, and accumulation of degradation products for glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA.

Effects of glyphosate on soil fungal communities: A field study

Maria Belen Vazquez et al.

Summary: The study explores the impact of glyphosate on soil fungal communities in semiarid grasslands, revealing a negative effect on fungal biomass at high doses, a temporary stimulatory effect at early stages, and a negative impact on the species richness of cultivable fungi. The molecular structure of soil fungal communities also changes after long-term glyphosate application.

A Review and Update with Perspective of Evidence that the Herbicide Glyphosate (Roundup) is a Cause of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Dennis D. Weisenburger

Summary: The review examined scientific literature linking exposure to glyphosate and GBFs to NHL development, finding ample evidence for an association and demonstrating carcinogenicity in animal studies. Mechanistic studies showed genotoxicity to human lymphocytes, with a novel mechanism recently discovered. These findings provide compelling evidence that glyphosate and GBFs are causative agents of NHL in humans.

Binding interaction of glyphosate with glyphosate oxidoreductase and C-P lyase: Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation studies

Pankaj Bhatt et al.

Summary: The widespread use of glyphosate poses a threat to living organisms, but microbes can degrade it with specific enzymes, including glyphosate oxidoreductase and C-P lyase. This study used molecular docking and dynamics simulations to investigate how glyphosate interacts with these enzymes and maintains stability in aqueous environments. The results provide insights into the role of these enzymes in bioremediation of glyphosate.

Glyphosate remains in forest plant tissues for a decade or more

N. Botten et al.

Summary: The persistence of glyphosate in forest understory plant tissues in northern British Columbia can last up to 12 years, with root tissues generally retaining residues longer than shoot tissues. Samples from the colder, more northern biogeoclimatic zone retain significantly higher levels of glyphosate for longer compared to samples from the warmer biogeoclimatic zone. This study utilized advanced analytical techniques to elucidate the actual length of time of glyphosate persistence, rather than relying on estimations based on half-life curves.

Transcriptome analysis and identification of candidate genes involved in glyphosate resistance in the fungus Fusarium verticillioides

Jing Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, RNA-seq was used to investigate gene expression in a Fusarium verticillioides isolate resistant to glyphosate. Analyzing the transcriptome revealed differentially expressed genes in response to glyphosate treatment, leading to the identification of candidate genes. These findings offer new insights for acquiring glyphosate resistance resources.

Bacterial isolates from Argentine Pampas and their ability to degrade glyphosate

Fiorella Masotti et al.

Summary: Thirteen bacterial strains capable of degrading glyphosate were isolated from environmental samples in Argentine soybean crop areas, with Achromobacter, Agrobacterium, and Ochrobactrum showing the best degradation performance. The genome of the highly efficient GBH degrader Agrobacterium tumefaciens CHLDO was sequenced, revealing the presence of a phn cluster responsible for phosphonate metabolization. Expression analysis of the phn genes in A. tumefaciens CHLDO suggests their strong participation in GBH degradation, highlighting the potential for bioremediation techniques in glyphosate-contaminated environments.

Glyphosate-Based Herbicides Alter the Reproductive Morphology of Rosa acicularis (Prickly Rose)

Alexandra R. Golt et al.

Summary: Glyphosate-based herbicides have a significant impact on the reproductive morphology of understory shrubs, reducing pollen viability and causing changes in floral morphology. Residues of glyphosate can still be detected in floral tissues two years after application, highlighting the long-term effects on forest vegetation and the importance of understanding and managing these impacts to preserve biodiversity in boreal forest ecosystems.
