Algae-mediated biosystems for metallic nanoparticle production: From synthetic mechanisms to aquatic environmental applications

Sheng-Nan Li et al.

Summary: The utilization of algae as living cell factories or natural reducing agents for synthesizing metallic nanomaterials in an eco-friendly manner has gained urgency due to the growing importance of green chemistry and environmental protection. Despite limited studies on algae-mediated biosynthesis of metallic nanoparticles and their applications in wastewater treatment, this review comprehensively discusses the synthetic mechanisms, operational parameters, case studies, and potential challenges and future perspectives to improve economic viability and environmental application of algae-synthesized metallic nanoparticles for aquatic pollutants treatment.
