Endophytic fungi: a tool for plant growth promotion and sustainable agriculture

Everlon Cid Rigobelo et al.

Summary: Endophytic fungi colonize plant tissues without causing disease symptoms, benefiting both the host plant and themselves. They have been found to provide direct benefits through nutrient acquisition and phytohormone production, as well as indirect benefits such as inducing resistance, producing antibiotics and secondary metabolites, producing siderophores, and protecting against abiotic and biotic stresses. The mechanisms of these interactions are discussed in depth.

Deciphering Trichoderma-Plant-Pathogen Interactions for Better Development of Biocontrol Applications

Alsayed Alfiky et al.

Summary: The versatility of Trichoderma interactions mainly relies on their ability to engage in inter- and cross-kingdom interactions; Deciphering the dialogues within and across Trichoderma ecological interactions is of great value in order to harness Trichoderma's full potential for plant growth promotion and protection; Better understanding how Trichoderma interacts with plants, other microorganisms, and the environment is essential for developing and deploying Trichoderma-based strategies that increase crop production and protection.

Biofortification of Cereals and Pulses Using New Breeding Techniques: Current and Future Perspectives

Rahil Shahzad et al.

Summary: This article highlights the importance of biofortification of cereals and pulses, addressing the lack of balanced nutrition supply due to deficiencies of essential elements and the impact of anti-nutrient compounds in pulses. It discusses the use of conventional methods and new breeding techniques for crop biofortification, as well as current and future perspectives and opportunities. Regulatory aspects of newly developed biofortified transgenic and/or non-transgenic crop varieties via NBTs are also presented.
