Clinical evolution of ST11 carbapenem resistant and hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae

Miaomiao Xie et al.

Summary: This study revealed that carbapenem-resistant and hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae strains carry phenotypes on a plasmid formed from the fusion of a virulence plasmid with a conjugative plasmid, causing infections with extremely high mortality rates in various countries. The conjugative plasmid identified in a clinical CR-HvKP strain enables rapid expression of carbapenem resistance and hypervirulence phenotypes in other strains upon transfer.

Prevalence and Characteristics of Phenicol-Oxazolidinone Resistance Genes in Enterococcus Faecalis and Enterococcus Faecium Isolated from Food-Producing Animals and Meat in Korea

Eiseul Kim et al.

Summary: The prevalence and characteristics of phenicol-oxazolidinone resistance genes in Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium isolated from food-producing animals and meat in Korea were analyzed in 2018. The study found that these resistance genes are commonly present on both the chromosome and plasmid, and can facilitate horizontal transfer with other antimicrobial-resistant genes.

Genetic features of the poxtA linezolid resistance gene in human enterococci from France

Loren Dejoies et al.

Summary: The study revealed the prevalence of poxtA gene in clinical enterococci in France since 2016, mostly in E. faecium and independently from optrA. Plasmids carrying poxtA also often co-carried resistance genes to phenicols and tetracyclines, potentially co-selected through veterinary use.

Mobile Oxazolidinone Resistance Genes in Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria

Stefan Schwarz et al.

Summary: Mobile oxazolidinone resistance genes such as cfr, optrA, and poxtA are found on various platforms and may overlap with other resistance genes, contributing to the dissemination of resistance among microbial populations.
