Profiling the annual change of the neurobiological and antioxidant effects of five Origanum species in correlation with their phytochemical composition

Hasya Nazli Gok et al.

Summary: The ethanol extracts of five Origanum species showed significant cholinesterase inhibition and antioxidant effects, with the phytochemical composition of 60 extracts analyzed. The study also identified a correlation between certain compounds and bioactivity. Additionally, molecular docking data suggested that caffeoylarbutin had the lowest binding energy against both AChE and BChE.

Pipercyclobutanamide D, a new member of the cyclobutanamide-type alkaloid, from the roots of Piper nigrum

Duc Minh Nguyen Huu et al.

Summary: A new dimeric alkamide, pipercyclobutanamide D, was isolated from the EtOH-soluble extract of Piper nigrum roots. It exhibited alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity and cytotoxicity against MCF-7 and HepG2 cell lines. A plausible biosynthetic pathway for its formation was proposed based on regioselective [2 + 2] cycloaddition reaction.

Identification of Mushroom and Murine Tyrosinase Inhibitors from Achillea biebersteinii Afan. Extract

Marcelina Strzepek-Gomolka et al.

Summary: This study aimed to optimize the extraction procedure of Achillea biebersteinii, evaluate its phytochemical composition, and compare the anti-tyrosinase potential of extracts obtained by various methods. The most active anti-tyrosinase extract was fractionated and the compounds responsible for the inhibitory activity were identified. Compounds like caffeoylquinic acid derivatives and dicaffeoylquinic acid derivatives were found to be more likely responsible for the tyrosinase inhibitory activity.

LC-HRMS/MS phytochemical profiling of Symphytum officinale L. and Anchusa ochroleuca M. Bieb. (Boraginaceae): Unveiling their multi-biological potential via an integrated approach

Adriana Trifan et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive phytochemical characterization and evaluation of the biological activities of Symphytum officinale and Anchusa ochroleuca. Both plants showed significant antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory effects, with differences in phytochemical profiles between their roots and aerial parts. Individual phenolic acids and sucrose were identified as key contributors to the antioxidant and anti-enzymatic properties in these Boraginaceae species, suggesting their potential as sources of bioactive compounds for pharmaceutical development.
