A guide to assessing cellular senescencein vitroandin vivo

Estela Gonzalez-Gualda et al.

Summary: Cellular senescence is a physiological mechanism with beneficial roles in physiology, but can also have antagonistic effects in diseases and cancer. Despite the establishment of a general set of hallmarks describing senescence, complexities such as phenotype heterogeneity have made recognition and evaluation challenging.

Cellular senescence in ageing: from mechanisms to therapeutic opportunities

Raffaella Di Micco et al.

Summary: Cellular senescence is characterized by permanent proliferation arrest and can occur in response to various stresses like telomere dysfunction. Apart from stress-induced senescence, it can also be part of controlled programs in biological processes like embryonic development. Senescent cells contribute to impaired tissue regeneration, chronic diseases, and organismal aging, but also present an opportunity for intervention in aging and associated diseases.

The Emerging Roles of Antioxidant Enzymes by Dietary Phytochemicals in Vascular Diseases

Seung Eun Lee et al.

Summary: Vascular diseases, such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, and COPD, are major causes of death globally. Research into the effects of dietary phytochemicals on antioxidant enzymes in vascular diseases has shown promising outcomes in preventing pathologies associated with vascular diseases.

Cardiac senescence is alleviated by the natural flavone acacetin via enhancing mitophagy

Yi-Xiang Hong et al.

Summary: The study shows that acacetin can alleviate cardiac senescence induced by D-galactose, improve heart function, enhance mitophagy, and preserve mitochondrial function by activating the Sirt1-mediated Sirt6/AMPK signaling pathway.

Licochalcone D Ameliorates Oxidative Stress-Induced Senescence via AMPK Activation

Nagarajan Maharajan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Lico D reduces oxidative stress-induced senescence by upregulating AMPK-mediated autophagy activation. Lico D treatment reverses the increase in senescence markers in the heart and hippocampal tissues induced by oxidative stress, and also decreases the expression levels of RAGE in the hippocampal tissue. Such findings suggest the antioxidant, anti-senescent, and cardioprotective effects of Lico D through AMPK activation and autophagy.
