Strigolactone and Ethylene Inhibitor Suppressing Dark-induced Leaf Senescence in Perennial Ryegrass Involving Transcriptional Downregulation of Chlorophyll Degradation

Qiannan Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of strigolactone (SL) and ethylene on dark-induced leaf senescence in perennial ryegrass. The results showed that SL accelerated leaf senescence by downregulating chlorophyll biosynthesis genes and upregulating chlorophyll degradation genes, while ethylene had counteractive effects by suppressing these processes. The interaction between SL and ethylene mainly regulated leaf senescence by controlling chlorophyll degradation induced by darkness in perennial ryegrass.

Improving the ripening process after 1-MCP application: Implications and strategies

Cindy Dias et al.

Summary: Optimizing temperature and applying exogenous ethylene have been the main methods to reverse the effect of 1-MCP. Treatment with other phytohormones has also shown promising results. Strategies effectiveness is dependent on the cultivar, time of application, and concentration of the compound. Developing strategies tailored to each cultivar's capacity to stimulate ethylene genes is crucial for overcoming the 'evergreen' effect caused by 1-MCP.

Silencing MdGH3-2/12 in apple reduces drought resistance by regulating AM colonization

Dong Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was demonstrated that MdGH3-2/12 plays an important role in AM symbiosis and drought stress tolerance in apple. Silencing these genes affected AM colonization and the response of plants to drought stress. Transgenic plants showed enhanced sensitivity to drought stress compared to wild type plants.

Strigolactone signaling inhibition increases adventitious shoot formation on internodal segments of ipecac

Summary: SL inhibits adventitious shoot formation in ipecac, while SL-related inhibitors promote adventitious shoot formation. The results suggest that SL-related inhibitors may serve as new plant growth regulators for improving plant propagation efficiency in vitro.

On improving strigolactone mimics for induction of suicidal germination of the root parasitic plant Striga hermonthica

Ikuo Takahashi et al.

Summary: The study found that different substituents at the 2-position exhibit different preferences for inhibiting rice tiller and inducing S. hermonthica seed germination. Halogenated debranones at the 2-position were more effective than other mimics and SL agonist GR24 in inhibiting rice tiller, but less effective in inducing S. hermonthica seed germination.
