Production of xylo-oligosaccharides from wheat straw using microwave assisted deep eutectic solvent pretreatment

Asli Isci et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of microwave assisted deep eutectic solvent pretreatment on the solubilization of xylan and release of xylo-oligosaccharides from wheat straw. It was found that the increase in microwave energy led to linear decrease in xylan yield in the solid fraction, while the xylose monomer and oligosaccharide yields in the liquid fraction initially increased and then declined. Addition of water in deep eutectic solvent resulted in approximately 68% reduction in furfural yield.
