Health consciousness and cervical cancer screening rates in HPV-unvaccinated girls: comparison from HPV-recommended and HPV-recommendation-suspended program periods

Summary: The study found that the vaccination-recommended group had a higher understanding of HPV vaccine and timing, were more likely to discuss cervical cancer with family, and had a greater fear of the disease compared to the recommendation-suspended group. On the other hand, the recommendation-suspended group tended to feel more inhibited from discussing cervical cancer with friends and acquaintances. The cervical cancer screening rate was significantly higher for the vaccination-recommended group.

A potential means to help the HPV vaccine penetrate the Japanese public while under the continued suspension of governmental recommendation

Summary: In Japan, the government's recommendation for the HPV vaccine has been suspended for almost 8 years. A study conducted in a women's clinic in Matsuyama revealed that providing informative leaflets to mothers explaining the need for cervical cancer prevention increased their willingness to vaccinate their daughters. The findings suggest that future efforts should focus on mothers who are less likely to impose conditions on their daughter's vaccination to improve vaccination rates.

Research has shown that there is a difference in the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine in reducing cervical cancer, with the incidence rates being significantly lower in the generation that received the vaccine compared to the generation that did not.
