Multifunctional plant virus nanoparticles in the next generation of cancer immunotherapies

Summary: Plant virus nanoparticles (PVNPs) have been investigated as immune adjuvants to stimulate anti-tumor immune response. Their immune stimulatory ability, nanoparticle structure, and ability to deliver other therapeutic molecules provide a flexible platform for cancer immunotherapy. Researching multifunctional PVNPs and their modification will generate novel reagents for cancer immunotherapy.

Cowpea mosaic virus stimulates antitumor immunity through recognition by multiple MYD88-dependent toll-like receptors

Summary: Research found that CPMV elicited stronger cytokine and chemokine induction in mouse splenocytes and exhibited more potent anti-tumor efficacy compared to eCPMV. Both CPMV and eCPMV required MyD88 for immune responses, and their capsids were recognized by MyD88-dependent TLR2 and TLR4. In addition, CPMV was also recognized by TLR7, which was critical for its better efficacy through the secretion of type I interferons.

Biparatopic Protein Nanoparticles for the Precision Therapy of CXCR4+ Cancers

Summary: This study investigated the use of the human albumin-derived peptide, EPI-X4, as a suitable ligand for targeting colorectal cancer via the cell surface protein CXCR4. Biparatopic nanoparticles combining EPI-X4 with another ligand, T22, showed significantly improved biodistribution in mouse models of CXCR4(+) human cancer and enhanced target cell death. This approach offers a novel strategy for highly selective drug delivery in cancer therapy.
