Selective laser sintering of porous Al2O3-based ceramics using both Al2O3 and SiO2 poly-hollow microspheres as raw materials

Jia-Min Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that a moderate content of SiO2 PHMs could enhance the compressive strength and reduce the porosity of Al2O3-based ceramics, while increasing the open pore size. However, an increase in the content of SiO2 PHMs to 40 wt% led to an increase in porosity and a decrease in pore size of the material. The selective laser sintering of different types of ceramic PHMs is a feasible method for producing porous ceramics with complex shapes, controllable pore sizes, and improved properties.

Effects of micro-sized mullite on cristobalite crystallization and properties of silica-based ceramic cores

Wenlong Zheng et al.

Summary: By adding micro-sized mullite, the high temperature properties of silica-based ceramic cores can be optimized, reducing the crystallization of cristobalite, enhancing flexural strength, and altering the fracture mechanism. However, when the mullite content exceeds 4.6%, the mechanical and thermal properties of ceramic cores are slightly reduced.

Recycling photovoltaic silicon waste for fabricating porous mullite ceramics by low-temperature reaction sintering

Ruipeng Liu et al.

Summary: By studying the effects of additive content and sintering temperature on the mullitization reaction of mullite ceramics, it was found that ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate molybdenum can reduce the reaction temperature and potentially be used in the preparation of porous mullite ceramics. The research provides a new idea for the low-cost preparation of porous mullite ceramics with high purity using photovoltaic silicon waste.

A numerical study on the packing quality of fibre/polymer composite powder for powder bed fusion additive manufacturing

Pengfei Tan et al.

Summary: A discrete element model was developed to simulate the packing process of fibre/polymer composite powder, analyzing the effects of powder layer thickness, roller spreading velocity, and fibre quantity on packing quality. The model suggested that increasing powder layer thickness improves packing density, while high spreading velocity and excessive fibres degrade packing quality.

Creep mechanism of zircon-added silica ceramic cores formed by stereolithography

Guang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the creep behavior of 3D-printed ceramic cores, specifically focusing on the influence of ZrSiO4 addition on their creep mechanism and analyzing delamination phenomenon through SEM observations. The addition of ZrSiO4 was found to hinder viscous flow of fused silica, deteriorating delamination and increasing creep, but also promote interlayer densification, strengthening creep resistance.
