Diorganyl Diselenides and Iron(III) Chloride Drive the Regio- and Stereoselectivity in the Selenation of Ynamides

Tales A. C. Goulart et al.

Summary: By controlling the functional groups directly bonded to the nitrogen atom of the ynamides, selectively three different types of compounds were obtained. The prepared compounds were also studied for their application as substrates in Suzuki and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions.

Synergistic effect of T80/B30 vesicles and T80/PN320 mixed micelles with Se/C on nasal mucosal immunity

Hongen Cao et al.

Summary: The study showed that Selenium doped carbon had a synergistic effect on nasal mucosal immunity, potentially serving as a new adjuvant for nasal vaccines. Both selenium and carbon are bio-compatible elements, making Se/C safe for practical applications with low hemolytic activity, expanding the scope of selenium chemistry.

Catalytic activation of PS/PMS over Fe-Co bimetallic oxides for phenol oxidation under alkaline conditions

Cong Wang et al.

Summary: The study compared the catalytic properties of bimetallic oxides FeCo2O4 in the oxidation of phenol by peroxydisulfate (PS) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS). While PMS system showed the involvement of sulfate radical, hydroxyl radical, and singlet oxygen in phenol oxidation, PS system mainly relied on non-radical mechanisms between PS and the catalyst surface. PS demonstrated better prospects for phenol treatment.

Synergetic catalysis of Se and Cu allowing diethoxylation of halomethylene ketones using O2 as the mild oxidant

Zhicheng Cao et al.

Summary: The diethoxylation of halomethylene ketones for the synthesis of valuable alpha-keto acetals was achieved using PhSe(O)OH/Cu(OAc)(2) catalysis, enabling the use of molecular oxygen instead of hazardous hydrogen peroxide. The presence of easily accessible bromo-containing substrates facilitated the release of HBr during the reaction, promoting the formation of key enol intermediates and allowing the reaction to proceed under mild conditions.
