Intermetallic-Rich Layer Formation for Improving Corrosion Resistance of Magnesium Alloys

Summary: This study investigates the formation of a corrosion protective coating containing intermetallic phases on magnesium alloy substrates. The coating, formed by vacuum thermal evaporation of commercially pure aluminum and subsequent heat treatment, was continuous and homogenous with a microstructure composed of a eutectic phase. This eutectic-type coating provided significant protection for both commercially pure magnesium and AZ31 alloy samples inside a salt spray chamber.

Effect of Grain Refinement by Laser Surface Treatment on Cell Adhesion Behavior of AZ91D Magnesium Alloy

Summary: Comparison of stress-shielding effects between locked compression plate (LCP) and limited-contact dynamic compression plate (LC-DCP) in dog femurs revealed that LCP group demonstrated better bone cell morphology, bone mineral density, and reduced degree of cortical bone osteoporosis compared to the LC-DCP group. Biomechanical analyses also showed that bones fixed with LCP had superior compressive and flexural strength. These findings suggest that LCP is more beneficial for new bone formation and fracture healing compared to LC-DCP.

Effect of ZnO nanoparticles addition to PEO coatings on AZ31B Mg alloy: antibacterial effect and corrosion behavior of coatings in Ringer's physiological solution

Summary: In this study, the PEO technique was utilized to modify the surface of AZ31B Mg alloy, investigating the effects of adding ZnO and HAp nanoparticles on the antibacterial and corrosion behavior of coatings. Results showed that increasing the concentration of ZnO nanoparticles enhanced the antibacterial activity of coatings, reduced corrosion current density, and improved corrosion resistance.
